42.2KM TRAIL MARATHON

Known to many as one of the most outstanding mountain bike tracks in the country, not many people realise that the 42 Traverse track is an equally outstanding track to experience on foot. You’re in for an amazing journey and about the most fun you can have with your running shoes on!

The 42 Traverse track is an historic logging road – undulating (but more down than up) with a handful of short river crossings. The terrain under foot is a variety of dirt (which can get a little muddy in places) and gravel. There is plenty of room for passing if need be and spectacular views to boot.

Due to the slip on the 42 Traverse there is a bypass that all runners will need to take. This bypass links to Top Track and then back onto the 42. You can see that bypass HERE. The Marathon course starts from Whakapapa Intake Road this year so you’ll get to run through some stunning farmland before getting onto the 42 Traverse.

Because we were able to adjust the start point for the Marathon, we are very pleased to say we have been able to maintain the exact marathon distance of 42.2km.
